Best known locally for her musicals and Pantos at Belleville's celebrated Empire Theatre, following 13 years as Artistic and Managing Director of the Stirling Festival, Caroline Smith has been involved in professional theatre for over 30 years. She started her career as a dancer in musicals, performing in theatres from Charlottetown to Victoria, spending three seasons with the Canadian Opera Company ballet corps, and even sharing the Royal Alexandra stage with the great Karen Kain! She is proudest of the choreography she created for shows like Singin' in the Rain, Oliver and Swing, and can't wait to put more steps on the Empire Theatre stage this year!

I have been dancing since I was 12 years old. I started my first year in jazz classes and the following year I switched to hiphop where I have remained for the past 6 years. I dance competitively at Dance Xtreme Studios in Napanee. I have been competing for the last three years in both solo hiphop and group hiphop categories. Our competitions are all over Ontario including Toronto, Niagara Falls, Blue Mountain and Brockville. I have obtained a certificate with the B.A.T.D. examinations in jazz, ballet and freestyle. In 2009 I started volunteering with CORE School of Arts teaching hiphop classes to students of all different levels. It is both rewarding and challenging and I am happy to be a part of such a great program. I am attending St. Lawrence College in the fall and continuing my volunteer work here in Belleville.

I have always loved to dance. At the age of 3, my mother enrolled me in my first ballet class and I have been dancing ever since. Throughout the last 23 years dancing I took various forms of dance including ballet, tap, jazz, highland, acro, lyrical and belly dance. I took my Associate in Stage with the British Association of Teachers of Dancing allowing me to teach my own classes. I now teach classes at Liane Ireland Academy of Dance and Performing Arts where I have been teaching for the last 3 years.
